Building renovation in progress

A major property renovation has begun, and the exhibition ”Six Centuries of Swedish Glass” must, therefore, close. Smålands Museum will be closed for maintenance from April 22 to May 13, 2025. The House of Emigrants will remain open as usual throughout the spring.
Did you know that Smålands Museum is Sweden’s oldest regional museum? The museum was founded in 1867 at Gunnar Olof Hyltén-Cavallius’s initiative. The older part of the current museum building was inaugurated in 1890. Like many old buildings, Smålands Museum requires regular maintenance to ensure its preservation for the future.
It is now time for a significant renovation in the section that houses Sweden’s Glass Museum. Unfortunately, the exhibition ”Six Centuries of Swedish Glass” must close. However, we warmly recommend that our visitors explore the ”The Studio Glass Revolution” exhibition instead and our temporary glass exhibitions on the bridge on the second floor, where we continue to showcase fantastic glass art and craftsmanship.
Smålands Museum will be closed for maintenance from April 22 to May 13, 2025.
During these three weeks, we will carry out extensive cleaning, and conservation work on objects and collections, and prepare a brand-new summer exhibition, Glass, Glass, Glass. From Monday, April 22, to Monday, May 12, the museum and its exhibitions will be closed to visitors.
The House of Emigrants will remain open as usual throughout the spring and will not be affected by the ongoing renovation and maintenance work.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!
