Welcome to The House of Emigrants

 

The House of Emigrants, situated in historical Swedish emigration district of Kronoberg. The House of Emigrants was inaugurated in August 1968 and is the Nordic region’s largest institute focusing on swedish emigration to North America. In the The House of Emigrants there are exhibitions, archives, libraries and research activities. The exhibitions depict the great wave of emigration to America in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In the Research room, you can access unique source material from emigration to mainly America and Canada, complete with a large special library. Here you also have access to many of the digital databases.

In the Research Room you have the opportunity to do genealogy with assistance from experienced staff, or dig deeper into the Swedish Emigrant Institute’s unique archives and library.
