Moberg and the Emigrants

Karl Artur Vilhelm Moberg was born in 1898 in a soldier’s cottage in the village of Moshult, Småland. Vilhelm Moberg grew up in Småland, an area known at the time for being poor and having meager arable land. This experience gave him insights into economic but also cultural poverty due to the people of the area being deeply religious.

The Swedish emigration to America is the largest population migration in Swedish history. Between the years 1830–1930, 1.3 million Swedes moved to America. Almost a fifth of the then-Swedish population made the long and sometimes demanding journey across the Atlantic to create a better life in the new country.

The Studio Glass Revolution

Through the Swedish Glass Academy, the Swedish Glass Museum has accepted a generous donation from 70 artists, artisans, and designers expressing themselves in glass. This fantastic donation has given the Swedish Glass Museum the unique opportunity to present the complete development of the studio glass movement from 1968 onwards.
