The House of Emigrants houses exhibitions, archives, a library and research activities. The permanent exhibition, “The Dream of America”, depicts the great wave of 19th century emigrations. In the “Moberg” room are original manuscripts, photos and objects which give a picture of the whole of Vilhelm Moberg’s authorship, but the emphasis is on the emigrant novels.
The House of Emigrants also holds the Swedish Emigrant Institute’s archives and library, and in the research room there is the opportunity to use this unique source material from the great emigration to America and Canada.
The building also houses Musik i Syd’s chamber orchestra, Musica Vitae, which plays in the large Atrium Room.
